the American people have had enough of the bottomless pit of debt into which this country as plunged itself. They have seen their hard-earned money go to paying taxes, taxes which do nothing but pay the interest for Government that we have already consumed. They have heard enough rhetoric from both Congress and the administration when it comes to the deficit. They have tired of a Government that talks loud but says nothing, a Congress that cheers when a 1 percent bipartisan cut in spending is killed by 7 votes by the liberal majority. I urge my colleagues to vote for the tax-limitation balanced budget amendment, to show the American people that we really do care about the deficit, about their children, about their grandchildren, and that we are willing to do something about it. Our future is in the balance.
