Take back your party. This is the Grand Old Party. The party has done so much for our country.

It is interesting to see 35 members coming forth. I`m very proud of them. And it was a recognition that this was a bipartisan product negotiated in good faith.

Democracy is about doing the will of the people and refusing to put party before country.

It is with great respect for this Committee and its proud bipartisan spirit and tradition of serving our Nation's veterans and their families and caregivers that I come before you today.

Disappointing, but not surprising, that the cowardice on the part of some on the Republican side, not to want to find the truth.

A Republican member on the committee said that happened that day was just like normal orderly visits of people to the capitol. Really? Really?

And we have to establish a commission for January 6. Why? It was just a normal tourist day. The denial about what happened that day, that denial for the need for more security to make sure it doesn`t happen again, and the denial of finding…

This hearing today and the continued partisan efforts of the Speaker will not make our Capitol any safer, our Nation any more united.

I urge my colleagues on this committee to stop the hypocrisy and stop politicizing this tragedy.

We can do this, and we can do it in a bipartisan manner, guaranteeing full accountability for the people that committed these crimes.

Today, we are witnessing democracy at work. This isn't as some of our Republican colleagues have referred to sadly as frivolous. This debate is fundamental to our democracy.

The enemy is within the House of Representatives.

I just do not know why there are not uprisings all over the country.

Speaker Pelosi supports this.

She faults them for not being realistic or being naive about what it takes to actually achieve some of the goals that you want now that there`s often a need to make a compromise if you`re going to actually reach a deal.

She is just as tough and ruthless as any of the men who preceded her in that office.
