I rise today to join with all my colleagues in celebrating this Black History Month. Each year during the month of February we consciously take time to acknowledge and celebrate the history and accomplishments of African Americans in this country and worldwide. As we reflect on our history, I am more convinced now than ever that economic development through black entrepreneurship is a key to creating jobs, wealth and opportunities in our communities. Our history is rich with African Americans who created economic opportunities for others by owning, operating and building their own businesses.
