When I was on welfare, I used to say to my friends--I was on welfare for 3 years, working the whole time. I would say to my friends, ``Well, I don't know how other women do this.'' ... I always worried that other women with children didn't have those same privileges that I had, actually, in growing up. And it's never left me. It has never entered my mind that I made it; so why can't you? I know how important that help was.
