“one of the really effective leaders in the State of Illinois died from cancer recently. She was Jacqueline Vaughn, who was the president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers and president, for many years, of the Chicago Teachers Union. She was a fighter with a great sense of responsibility. I had the opportunity to work with her, not only on education issues but other issues, and always came away with the feeling that Illinois was fortunate to have Jackie Vaughn in our midst. The State of Illinois has lost one of its finest citizens with the death of Jacqueline Vaughn.”
