“let me say that I support transitional bilingual education that moves young people from their native language as quickly as possible into English and teaching them then in English. But I do not support bilingual education as has been practiced in many of our larger cities where kids are kept in their native language for year after year instead of moving them to English. So, to the extent that we transition and actually use the bilingual program as it was originally intended to move children as quickly as possible into the English language and being taught in the English language, I support it.”
