We need our strongest soldiers on the field.

I support Dr. Blasey Ford's request for an FBI background investigation before a hearing. She should not be bullied into participating in a biased process and we should not rush forward before facts are gathered.

The background laws and the background checks will allow us to do that.

We should have smart public policy as it relates to regulating who can own a gun and who can possess a gun.

Our folks in Washington, D.C., need to take some action and take control of this issue.

We can have both and we can be both. And I think what we've done today in California is a model of that approach.

I absolutely do. And I think so goes California so goes the rest of the country. What the governor did today, Jerry Brown, is he signed legislation proposed by Senator Mark Leno that would institute common-sense gun safety laws.

The majority of Americans, the majority of Californians, if I can speak for California, the majority of Catholics in this country, support same-sex marriage.

The bottom line here is that like 'Loving versus Virginia,' a case that was decided by the United States Supreme Court in 1967. We don't want to have to wait until everyone catches up, everyone catches up with what the Constitution…

Instead of reading the polls what we should be doing is reading the Constitution, which says that marriage and describes marriage as a fundamental right, deserving of the highest levels of protection.

We have the president of the United States weighing in on this. We have over 100 Republican leaders weighing in on this in favor of same-sex marriage.

It is about establishing what the court has established 14 times since the 1800s. Marriage is a fundamental right.

The time is now to be true to the Constitution and to treat equally situated people as equals.

What we should be doing is reading the Constitution, which says that marriage and describes marriage as a fundamental right, deserving of the highest levels of protection.

The reality is 61 percent of Californians are in favor of same-sex marriage.

That there is a significance to the passage of time and no more time should pass on this issue.

Assault weapons I absolutely believe should be taken off the streets. They -- I've seen them kill babies and police officers, not I think intended use.

But I think that the NRA and everyone has to agree that this is just about smart policing. This is about a smart and effective way of taking guns out of the hands of people who are dangerous to our community and have been proven to be so.

Well, this year, I'm pleased to say the legislature has taken this on, and they are helping us with our continuing advocacy for more resources.

We should be able to deal with our backlog, which is about 20,000 individuals, by the end of this calendar year, and going forward deal with the 3,000 that come on the books every year.
