“You know, this could not be any more serious. It's important for us to debate what our servicemembers are doing in foreign conflicts. The War Powers Act, it is important to make sure that the President understands from Congress exactly what we are willing to do with our American troops and where we are willing to fight. But I do agree he has to give us his reasons. In Desert Storm, we knew why we were there. We knew what our role was, we knew what our goals were, we knew what our exit strategy was. These are the very reasons that we are looking for before we appropriate funds, before we put our troops at risk, before any boots go to the ground, before this conflict escalates any further, before a new government comes into play, we expect these answers to be given to us. We expect the President to do his job, to show leadership, to address Congress and explain why he is committing American servicemembers. So this is very serious. It is very serious and it's long overdue. The President should have come here first. He certainly should have come here within 60 days.
