“one of the best parts of seeking my seat in Congress was meeting Maureen Reagan in 1992, when she ran in the primary for her party's nomination. It was my good fortune that, after Maureen lost, her supporters became mine and she and I became great friends. Maureen brought an intelligence and vibrancy to the campaign and although she did not win her party's nomination, she continued to influence many policy debates, particularly in health care after her father revealed he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. I am deeply saddened to lose a friend. California and the nation have lost a strong and active voice. I join my colleagues in honoring the life of Maureen Reagan.”
