I know that story well, Madam Speaker, because that young boy was me. There are many children who are going into buildings just like Gompers Continuation School. These buildings have the word ``school'' on top of them, but they are not giving an education. We are condemning the poorest people in the poorest neighborhoods to a lifetime of pain instead of the promise of education. Let us give the children of Washington, D.C. who are least able to afford to have a decent education and have a chance for a real future the opportunity to have what every single child of a Member of Congress has: a good education for a good future.
