Jackie Speier is a former U.S. Representative from California, serving in the House of Representatives from January 3, 2008, until January 15, 2022. A member of the Democratic Party, she represented California's 14th congressional district. Speier is known for her advocacy on issues such as women's rights, healthcare, and gun control. She gained national attention for her work on the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights and her efforts to address military sexual assault. Speier's political career began in the California State Assembly, where she served from 2002 to 2006 before moving to the U.S. Congress.
We have to do better by our women. We have to do better by our women minorities, our black and browns, our Latinas.
I fear that when we make it a gender issue that we actually lessen the overall impact of sexual assault on men in the military.
So if you look at the data, it hasn't gotten better. You, I fear, plucked this high-water mark to make the case that somehow we are doing better when, in fact, we aren't doing any better.
What standard is being used by investigators and SHARP in determining 'credible' evidence?
If Vanessa shared her concerns with others, who were supposedly interviewed, how could the investigation have found no credible evidence of harassment by Vanessa?
We divided up our whole task into three categories. Prevention--how do we make certain that we lessen sexual assault and sexual harassment.
But you also, I think, in your report indicated that the--is it the SHARP 360 program? Are you familiar with that?
I think it is very important, as we study this issue, to recognize that Colonel Wempe's investigation was not scientifically based.
