I hope that as a product of this hearing, and others, Madam Chairman, that there will be cooperation from the industry.

Without regulation, Mr. Huerta, it is only a question of time before a commercial airliner comes down.

This is a new industry. It is an unregulated industry. You do not have the authority currently to do anything to see that that does not happen. This is of serious and grave concern to me.

DOE should give the laboratories and management and operating contractors the authority to operate with more discretion whenever possible.

Government and the contractor should work together as partners in a relationship with clearly understood roles.
