I thank the gentleman from Massachusetts. I want to start my comments with his close. As he closed with the quoting of President Eisenhower, I would like to begin my comments by quoting President Eisenhower. When he was leaving office, he said, ``Beware the industrial military complex.'' Madam Speaker, it doesn't make any sense when our kids are dying or losing their legs that we're going to have a 20-minute debate on Afghanistan. We ought to be having a full day of debate on Afghanistan, quite frankly. We've spent $1.3 trillion in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Over 6,400 Americans have died. That's why I rise with my friend Mr. McGovern. I will tell you that I will vote against the rule today because it denies the American people a full debate on why our young men and women are dying for a corrupt leader named Karzai. Madam Speaker, we can't even audit the books in Afghanistan. I think about the fact of those marines I saw recently at Walter Reed over in Bethesda. Two had lost both legs. They're from my district, Camp Lejeune. One was a lance corporal who lost one leg. He said to me, Congressman, why are we still in Afghanistan? I said, Sir, I don't know. With friends from both sides, I'm trying to get you out of Afghanistan. But, no, we're going to stay there because we won't even take the time to debate Afghanistan on this bill. It doesn't make any sense. I took the McGovern amendment, and I sent it to my adviser, who is a former commandant of the Marine Corps.…
