one of the greatest indictments I believe ever written was written on scraps of paper in a lonely jail cell in Birmingham, AL, in 1963. The letter from a Birmingham jail written by Dr. Martin Luther King is a call to action. Last year, for the first time in the history of this body, the entire letter was read on the Senate floor by three Republicans, three Democrats--a bipartisan effort, a bipartisan reading of a letter that is so important, the words of which still resonate today. Today, we do it again. I am pleased that we have once again three Republicans and three Democrats to take part in this historic reading.
