The President visited our city last week. We are in the middle of a crisis. As I said earlier, if it was a tornado or earthquake, he would have been there. He chose not even to come to meet people or the press. He went to one of our great Marine bases, Camp Pendleton. No contact with ordinary people. He said nothing really about the crisis and how he was going to solve it, and people had no opportunity to deal with the President face-to-face. I think this was an incredible abdication of responsibility for a major crisis, and I know those of us from San Diego were especially aggrieved by that.
