I am disappointed that we didn't get to vote on Senator Gillibrand's evacuation amendment, and also Senator Carper's amendment.

I support this amendment, appreciate the efforts of the bill's sponsors to address some of the concerns in the introduced bill.

I do want to thank you so much for this markup today.

The bottom line is hundreds of degraded and cracked bolts were found.

The American Society of Civil Engineers rates our Nation's infrastructure a D+. If one of our kids came home with that grade, we would say, uh-oh, we better change things.

The American people certainly have a right to expect safe, clean water when they turn on their faucets.

You are passionate about the problems you have seen with your own eyes, and you didn't turn away from people who don't have a lot of power.

I am just so pleased that once again our committee is leading the way in restoring hope in the American people that we can work in a bipartisan fashion.

We have a great product. So I hope that both of you, if we all go to see these two leaders on the floor, we can get some time and get this done.

Well, a new record has been set for many reasons, and I am just so proud of this committee when we do this.

Well, wait a minute. Where are they learning how to block appointments to the supreme court?

Time makes a big difference in these kind of epidemics.

Unfortunately and sadly and inexplicably, Congress has not provided the administration with the funding it needs to respond to this outbreak.

I would like you to be able to do more.

President Obama's decision to change a failed policy was welcome news for me, and I hope it will turn out to be so for the Cuban people and the human rights activists there.

I just think the work of this committee could really spark an entire new effort to rekindle the new technologies.

What we are trying to do is work with my colleague to get a lot of my Water-21 legislation in this.

We have three witnesses. Remember this moment.

Senator Boxer, it was during your term on the Senate Appropriations Committee that you were able to secure our first Federal appropriation toward construction of the GWRS.

We need to have a water supply that is there for us.

There could be unlimited supplies of water for growth and all the rest.

I just think a little spark from this committee could drive change and alleviate one of the biggest problems that we face as a Nation.

I would just note, and I think my colleague agrees, everybody needs clean water.

Thank you. That is music to my ears, and I hope we can avoid on either side any kind of poison pill amendments that do not belong there.

Senator Boxer, you were instrumental in assisting us in our negotiations with the Army Corps, and this year we have already accrued 31,000 acre-feet of water due to your efforts.
