I salute a recommendation that says, look, let us just make sure that we keep this traffic moving

This Committee is ready. We have agreement across party lines.

We need to do that, working with this Committee, working with the Appropriations Committee, because literally the safety of the ridership is at stake here.

We must have continued investment. We must have continued job creation.

The job before us is urgent.

I would prefer to see 18 months because it gets us past the politics.

Transportation investments have a positive impact on our communities, regardless of where we are from.

This is about jobs, it is about our economy.

A lot of us on this Committee want to find a way to fill the Highway Trust Fund and do it in a way that makes sense.

Our prayers go out to the families, the victims, those whose lives were forever changed as a result of that tragedy.

I stood shoulder to shoulder with my colleague trying to get three times more funding into the Stimulus Bill for highways and transportation.

I think there is no question, I guess a few of us here have ports, and we know what engines they are for growth, moving the goods in and out.

This is an important issue.

I believe we have to take a hard look at why such a destructive practice is allowed to continue.

It is critical that we better understand what impacts these practices have.

If confirmed, will you produce an immediate report on the role of Federal agencies and the White House in reviewing IRIS assessments and let us know how we can better handle these problems?

If confirmed, will you review EPA's conflict of interest guidelines, including for advisory panels, and recommend ways to improve safeguard against people with conflicts serving on these boards?

If confirmed, will you please review EPA's agency-wide implementation of the Executive Order on Environmental Justice and help to recommend ways that EPA can better implement this order?

If confirmed, would you please review EPA's confidential business information rules and recommend ways to increase information disclosure to the public?

We just wrote a letter, Senator Rockefeller and I, to talk about the need to move forward with positive train control and other lifesaving measures.

I hope you'll move quicker than 2015. That was--some places, I have to compromise, but I think it needs to be swifter than that.

Our high-speed rail in California is projected to save 12.7 million barrels of oil a year by 2030.

It's impossible to talk about high-speed rail without, at the same time, talking about positive train control.

High-speed rail is critical, it's just really critical.

The private sector has to be leveraged into this, too.
