A personal injury lawsuit involving the chemical dispersant Corexit 9500 was filed in Alabama.

Are you aware that on their own sheets, they describe their own product, human health hazard, they define it as acute in each case.

And I have here the company's data sheet on these two choices here.

I do, however, have some questions about the dispersants themselves.

Which we now know is the largest of its kind in history, totaling an estimated $4.9 million barrels of crude oil.

It is very tough to regulate this one chemical at a time.

It was an enormous fight. It was an enormous, enormous, terrible, awful fight.

We passed some very tough legislation; Senator Klobuchar and I serve on the Commerce Committee. We were able to ban pthalates in children's products.

The reason I think it is important--I was stunned with that number you said, 1 in 28 children.

I doubt that they have a lot of statistics in Somalia just because I don't think they have a health care system that is capable of doing what we do.

So you would say, from what you know, there is a worldwide increase?

What do we know about other countries' data?

But isn't one of the goals of the reason we did all that funding for genes is to eventually do gene therapy?

So is the ultimate--down the road cure for this, if this proves out, gene therapy?

So that leads you further to suspect that it is something either in the genes or the environment combined?

I think we are kind of having a fairly clear path here to where we are going.

We are coming along, we are narrowing down.

I hope you will let us know, all of us here care a lot about this.

The fact that we are only spending $9 million on autism, something that affects 1 out of 110 children, is just amazing to me.

We clearly have moved to a different place now, where we are looking at the genes, and we are looking at the chemicals that either the parents or the child have been exposed to.

I know how proud she must have been when her daughter founded the first subcommittee on this Committee dealing with children's health.
