Alex Padilla is an American politician serving as the junior United States senator from California since January 2021. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Kamala Harris when she became Vice President. Padilla is the first Latino senator from California and has focused on issues such as immigration reform, climate change, and healthcare access during his tenure. He previously served as the Secretary of State of California from 2015 to 2021, where he worked on expanding voting access and modernizing the state's election system.
There was no surge when Title 42 was lifted. There will be no surge if we pass the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.
Let's be real. Republicans said the same thing about the lifting of Title 42, and the surge did not happen.
We're talking about basic protections in conditions that are on a very regular basis.
That's why I've introduced the Fairness for Farmworkers Act, last Congress, that would have guaranteed overtime.
They are paying taxes. Taxes into programs that they are not eligible to benefit from.
I believe we can and we must come together in a bipartisan fashion to make these meaningful investments.
