Mark Edward Kelly is an American politician, engineer, and former astronaut currently serving as the junior United States senator from Arizona. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected to the Senate in a special election held in November 2020 and officially took office on December 2, 2020. Kelly has focused on various issues during his tenure, including veterans' affairs, healthcare, and gun control, reflecting his commitment to public service and safety.
I applaud you for what you are doing, I thank you for having this hearing and Mr. Connolly, these are the things that we really can make a difference in.
Those the United States is taking a lead in, we are starting to talk about these things in such an open forum.
Unfortunately though, change doesn't usually take place unless there is a tragedy or a crisis.
I don't think there is anybody on the dais today that would question the desire to make sure that people were safe all the time.
When we talk about response rate, the American public oftentimes feels we are being gamed.
Those are very strong words. I completely agree with President Obama's statements.
When we start telling people about openness, transparency and everybody will have access to almost everything and anything you want and anytime you want it, I understand.
Just because you happen to be sitting in a position that is benefiting from years, years of technology coming now into fruition.
It just seems to me that so far we don't have a very good positive rate of return on what we have invested.
The American people expect all of us to honestly assess the investments we have made and chart a course for the future.
