That is what these consortia are able to do. They are able to build capacity so that these many, many much smaller and much less advantaged tribes, they are the most disadvantaged, they are the ones that need it most, and yet they have the least capacity to do it.

Last week, I raised this issue with Secretary McMahon, and I’m pleased she agreed to expedite the obligation of the funds for the Alaska Native Education Program grants that Congress appropriated earlier this year.
As the Arctic grows in strategic importance, the United States must continue investing in the research, infrastructure, and expertise needed to strengthen our understanding of this rapidly changing region.
I will continue to champion this program and work with the Department to ensure this funding is administered more expeditiously going forward.
