While the protections afforded in NAGPRA may not be applicable in every instance, I do hope that this committee can have a discussion on how NAGPRA's already existing Federal framework may be one of the many Federal tools that we can choose to apply in order to correct a harmful period in Federal Indian policy.

Last week, I raised this issue with Secretary McMahon, and I’m pleased she agreed to expedite the obligation of the funds for the Alaska Native Education Program grants that Congress appropriated earlier this year.
I will continue working to eliminate this fee permanently so that Alaska’s students are receiving the best education possible, regardless of the outcome of future legal challenges.
It’s tough to say that that the agreement is one that leaves Iran in a worse place, and the United States in a better place.
The country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration. I hope Mr. Blanche is able to achieve that, if confirmed, but I simply do not have confidence that will be the case.
