On the recordNovember 28, 2001
I rise on behalf of a significant group of Americans who feel that an energy bill should be a priority for this Congress. That has been expressed uniformly by many organizations. We have heard from organized labor. For example, we have heard from America's veterans, and we have heard from America's Hispanic community. They suggest that an energy bill is way overdue. For the record, I will have a list of many of the organizations that participated in the debate, expressing themselves on the issue through statements and press conferences and so forth. It is important to recognize the current stalemate. It is my understanding that the current pending business is the stimulus bill. Nevertheless, we are being asked to set the stimulus bill aside and move to the railroad retirement bill. In context with this, I will refer to some comments that the majority leader made today with regard to the energy bill coming before this body.
