I want to join my colleagues here on the Senate floor and talk about the importance of national security right here in the Congress of the United States. It is certainly one of our top priorities--protecting our Nation. You know, President Ronald Reagan, who very much focused on the issue of peace through strength--and I am going to talk about that here in a minute--he once said: We know only too well that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. I am just going to end by saying I am very disappointed. I tried to do this a month ago. This bill of mine is really for some great heroes in America, and the program is going to expire in a month. This bill passed unanimously in December…
We should do both. I ask my colleagues to vote for this amendment. And all my colleagues who voted for this amendment in 2017 should simply vote for it again. The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator from Oregon.
