Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the President of Ukraine, having taken office in May 2019. A former comedian and television producer, he gained prominence through his role in the television series 'Servant of the People,' where he played a schoolteacher who unexpectedly becomes president. Zelenskyy ran for office as a political outsider, campaigning on anti-corruption and reform agendas. His leadership has been particularly noted during the ongoing conflict with Russia, where he has sought to rally international support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Our hearts go out to the families of the over two dozen people who died, as well as all of the American communities affected by this natural disaster.
We spoke about opportunities in air defense and agreed that we will work together to strengthen protection of our skies.
For every such strike against people and human life, they must feel appropriate sanctions and other blows to their economy, their revenues, and their infrastructure.
Without truly large-scale pressure, Russia will not change its dumb, destructive behavior.
We will continue working to ensure justice for all victims. Criminals must face trial in The Hague and be punished.
The Tribunal, formally launched today, creates a real opportunity to hold the leadership of the Russian regime accountable for the crimes committed against our state and our people.
