Andy Burnham
The Public Record
This change today is the most significant change moment in our politics for the last 40 years.
If we want an economy and a country that works for all people and places then it requires a new path to the one we have been on for the past 40 years.
Change starts with honesty. We must recognise that this generation of politicians, myself included, have failed to challenge a political culture and an economic model that simply doesn't work well enough for ordinary people.
To make life 'more affordable' as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.
In future, when a Burnhamite walks into a bar... I want the barman to say: 'Great to see you - we don’t like factional politics in here'.
I will be a leader for the North, the South, the East and the West, for Scotland, Wales and for Northern Ireland.
I’ll drive this change. I will drive the devolution of power from No 10 North right across this country.
We are united and we put the power that comes from that unity at the service of people and places who have been waiting too long for politics to let them hope again. That’s what we’re going to do, everybody. We’re going to give them hope…
It’s a litmus test: if you’re serious about rolling back 40 years of neoliberalism and you want someone who’s intellectually in tune with that and capable of doing it, Ed’s your candidate.
As your leader, I will set a direction that is distinctively Labour. We won’t try to out-Green the Greens, or out-Reform Reform.
We will have a leader at the top who is inherently political and the people he has picked are passionate about driving his vision for radical reform and change.
The UK requires a new path to the one we’ve been on for the last 40 years.
Labour must give people across Britain the hope that we will make this country the best it can be.
I will take power back from Westminster and Whitehall and give it back to the place where you live.
I love every part of the country, all of the accents and different traditions and some of the football clubs.
This is a moment to speak for all parts of the country and unite people in a common cause.
First, I will work relentlessly to build a culture of one Labour team, because change starts with us.
This is a proud moment you have given me and my family, and an emotional one.
