Legislation

This bill, which incorporates legislation submitted by me to the Congress in May of last year, will go far toward fulfilling our commitments to return integrity and efficiency to the conduct of government.

I urge Congress to act upon this legislation quickly.

It is with great satisfaction that I note the approval today by the Senate Finance Committee of the administration's proposed legislation to provide substantial tax credits to employers willing to hire disadvantaged young workers.

This tax credit, introduced as part of my urban policy legislation in March, would enlist the private business sector as an effective partner with government to help us move toward a solution of one of our most serious problems.

My hope and my expectation is that next week we will have a successful vote on the natural gas bill.

We are trying to do some things in the Congress.

I applaud the passage of S. 9, which is an important part of our energy program.

I am convinced that this bill will correct the most serious deficiencies in the prevailing rate system and I wish to reiterate my concern for its passage.

Enactment of these recommendations will effect major reform of our tax laws, provide significant tax relief, and sustain our economic recovery.

The tax proposal... greatly simplifies the tax laws of our Nation.

We will work with Congress to secure passage of beneficial legislation that is fair to consumers.

This act is another important milestone in the evolution of forest policy and conservation law.

I am pleased today to sign S. 3521, the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Act of 1976.

H.R. 2735 significantly improves the scope of medical care services available to our Nation's disabled veterans and their families.

The legislation also provides sound State and local programs to deal with ever increasing amounts of municipal solid wastes generated in this country.

This legislation is another step forward in improving the quality of the environment.

The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act of 1976, which I sign today, is such a step.

I believe H.R. 2735 can aid the administration in continuing to provide high quality medical care for our Nation's veterans.
