In this country, for one reason or another, we have, possibly, been more backward in the building of roads we need than we should have been.

We like to see roads springing up everywhere because we are certain that as you people from all countries come to visit us, and we come to meet you, there is going to be nothing but good come out of it.

In the near future I shall transmit to the Congress the necessary budget request to carry out this program, and I trust that the Congress will give this proposal for accelerated completion of the Inter-American Highway its most favorable consideration.

This dam will be a wonderful thing for Montana.

We are creating assets for the people of the United States when we make expenditures for the development of these great water projects.

Bull Shoals and Norfork Dams will hold back millions of gallons of flood water.

This procedure for building the St. Lawrence project is entirely feasible.

I urge the Congress to reject the narrow and selfish arguments of those who oppose the St. Lawrence project.

The cost of both the seaway and power phases of the project will be repaid, with interest.

It is absolutely imperative that we move forward with these Federal power projects, as well as with the expansion of private facilities now planned or underway.

Such an interconnection is simply a matter of common sense--it is a good, fast way to increase the Nation's power supply.

To keep power rates down, the Government has built many transmission lines to load centers and, in most instances, has served preference customers directly over its own transmission facilities.

The Alaska public works program is new and will continue to grow for some time.

The transfer will thus clarify responsibility and simplify relationships in the execution of public works activities in Alaska and the Virgin Islands.

The program of highway safety must be expanded and intensified.

Well, that train trip was not in contemplation for immediate use. It is still on the shelf and can be revived if it is necessary.
