Diplomacy

Your Excellency, it is a great privilege for me to present to you the highest award that this Government can give to anyone not a citizen of this country.

I really believe that in this whole field of international trade, we must think of it as the greatest instrument or weapon in the hands of the diplomat as he strives to promote peace.

The position of foreign affairs vis-a-vis other nations must not be weakened.

It is a pleasure to me to welcome you here, and I hope that you will enjoy your stay in this country

I do not care to comment on that situation until I have a chance to discuss the matter with the Secretary of State.

We must stand firm against aggression, build up our defenses, cooperate with other free peoples, and hold the door open for the fair settlement of international disputes.

We will remain in close consultation on the developments which might increase danger to the maintenance of world peace.

Our discussions have been conducted in mutual friendship, respect and confidence.

Peace on earth is what we are both striving for.

It is a pleasure, sir, to welcome you to Washington, D.C.

Mr. Prime Minister, I can't tell you when I have had more pleasure than I have this morning in welcoming you as a visitor to the United States of America.

I hope during the year you will become imbued with such close friendships to us that we can never have a failing out.

The United Nations is the conference we should attend and work with.

We are pledged in this country to support the United Nations and help make it work.

It is a pleasure for me to greet you this morning, and in the name of your country.

I also want to thank you most sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, for the most cordial reception which you gave to my daughter on her tourist trip to France.

Everything that is possible is being done, just as was done in the case of Vogeler, and as has been done in the case of the Archbishop.

I hope that his mission will be successful.
