A leader of his people—a teacher of all people—has fallen.

The first of these two measures, the model cities program, recognizes that our cities are made of people, not just bricks and mortar.

This act could help us lead to a better day and I hope it will:--a day when some form of voluntary service to the community and the Nation and the world is as common in America as going to school; when no man has truly lived who only served himself.

I urge all our people to give public and private expression to the love and gratitude which they bear for their fathers.

Through public spirited citizens such as yourself we will find the new and creative solutions and that will move this country closer to the goal of a better life for all our people.

We owe it the goodness of our hearts and the labors of our hands.

They are calling human beings together in a hundred ways to cope with the problems of the city and the village life.

The shade of a tree and the beauty of its branches must be always within the reach of our people, young and old, wherever they live.

I want to thank you so very much for coming out here in Reno today and extending the warm hand of welcome to your friend and your neighbor who has come to see you at this time of the year.

Hence from Plymouth Rock until this day, Americans have been careful about the welfare of their fellow man.

This house is the house of all the people of this land.

If there is any theme which I think this conference best expresses, it is the common dependence we have one upon another.

This community depends upon industry.

Every child here in this community deserves to be well educated.

I left here in 1924, after three years of wonderful service among a wonderful people.

We will pitch in and help.

Indeed, may I say to you that because of this, though I come among you as a stranger, I have felt no more at home in any other town or city that I have visited in this country.

No greater honor can come to any individual and citizen of this country than to be received in friendly fashion by a cross-section of his fellow citizens.
