It's time for us to act to get our own house in order.

None of it matters very much unless you not only think and feel but also act.

There is no single action that we can take that will be any more important than doing this for our Nation's future.

Let me be clear: Our commitment to action did not begin and will not end with Rio.

I hope they'll get on and do it.

And the time is now.

Now all of us have to get busy and make it work.

It's important that this be done expeditiously.

I will not hesitate to take even more stringent actions.

We have the military strength to do it, and I would take that action.

It is now time to act.

What matters most, in this critical hour, is our ability to act--and to act in a way that enables us to control events, not to be paralyzed and overwhelmed by them.

It is with great pleasure today that I am signing into law the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973, extending and strengthening the mandate of ACTION to serve as a spearhead of our voluntary service programs.

Give us the tools and we will do the job.

I promised to join them in making 1972 a year of action for older Americans.

We have acted and acted in good faith.

I call upon the Congress now to complete its work of hope for millions of Americans who now look to it for action.

Now we know that it is not enough.
