Action

We can do this, we can do it this year, and we ought to do it.

It is unconscionable that we do not do more.

And Americans are fed up and want to see action -- not just political rhetoric; they want to move beyond ideology, beyond the political divisions.

Better to make a mistake and correct it than to sit on the sidelines and not try to change the country.

We can turn it around if we begin now.

But there's still a lot to do.

The American people want us to act on crime.

We want to seize this moment to try to get it done now.

There is no conceivable excuse to delay this action one more day.

Nothing before us that cannot be cured if we have the willingness to open our ears, lower our voices, roll up our sleeves, and make our words speak through our deeds.

Tonight, because of the bold action taken by courageous men and women in the House and the Senate, that dream will not be deferred but rather be fulfilled.

They want things done.

It's time for us to act to get our own house in order.

None of it matters very much unless you not only think and feel but also act.

There is no single action that we can take that will be any more important than doing this for our Nation's future.

Let me be clear: Our commitment to action did not begin and will not end with Rio.

I hope they'll get on and do it.

And the time is now.
