We will do what is necessary to prevent this problem from happening.

I think today's action is a good step in the right direction.

We must keep our eyes on doing things, and then we need to stand up and do them.

We don't need to wait any longer.

This gives us a chance to put all of our actions where our words are.

We can do this, we can do it this year, and we ought to do it.

It is unconscionable that we do not do more.

And Americans are fed up and want to see action -- not just political rhetoric; they want to move beyond ideology, beyond the political divisions.

Better to make a mistake and correct it than to sit on the sidelines and not try to change the country.

We can turn it around if we begin now.

But there's still a lot to do.

The American people want us to act on crime.

We want to seize this moment to try to get it done now.

We have to do more.

There is no conceivable excuse to delay this action one more day.

Nothing before us that cannot be cured if we have the willingness to open our ears, lower our voices, roll up our sleeves, and make our words speak through our deeds.

Tonight, because of the bold action taken by courageous men and women in the House and the Senate, that dream will not be deferred but rather be fulfilled.

They want things done.
