The Supreme Court this morning rejected a case brought by Republican led states that had asked the court to kill the Affordable Care Act altogether.

It brings chaos and anarchy, and so you`re trying to build an appetite for authoritarian rule.

Killing the Affordable Care Act has been the great white whale of the Republican Party.

Today the House of Representatives has passed a bill establishing June 19th at Juneteenth National Independence Day, a U.S. federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

They were trying to drive a stake through the heart of this country.

They’re also pressuring conservative Democrats like, you guessed it, Joe Manchin, to oppose his party’s legislative priorities.

They’ve got an entire website asking people to email Manchin, touting what he’s promised to oppose, ending the filibuster, the Green New Deal, additional Supreme Court justices, and voting rights.

The big lie that the election was stolen pushed by a wannabe autocrat and his feckless followers is starting to have real consequences for the future of our democracy.

The Senate could counter those efforts by passing the For the People Act, which would expand voting rights.

It reads like an enemies list, right? Richard Nixon notoriously also kept a list of enemies and use the government to spy on them.

To reform the presidencies so that the last four years are never repeated, the country must go beyond passing laws. It must make clear through its actions, no person, not even the president is above them.

We clearly need another round of reform. We need more accountability for those who`ve done wrong, those who have transgressed and have abused their authority.

We are going to hear from Attorney General Merrick Garland tomorrow.

The line is, should this have been done? Was this wrong? Was this wrong for them to do?

You can’t be like, oh, we had policy differences. This is not policy, it’s a department that broke, that we can’t afford to let remain broken.

If this stuff isn’t rooted out, exposed and punished, it will happen again, it will become the new normal.

Politics is about legacy, right? And how you start is not necessarily how you finish.

If you don`t have the right to vote, nothing else really seems to matter, and nothing else is going to pass.

But we know that Republicans are on the march in state legislatures across the country enacting measures that are really going to make it more difficult for people of color, for other marginalized folks to cast their ballots going forward.

I would rather trade in the filibuster and rely on our ability to veto if we can have fair elections.

Joe Manchin has a meeting scheduled with the NAACP next week. And we know that is only going to be about the 60-vote threshold in the senate.
