Mr. Putin clearly wants to get Ukraine within the Russian sphere of influence. He does not want Ukraine to affiliate with the European Union. Obviously, he doesn't want it to affiliate with NATO.

He doesn't want Ukraine to be a thriving democracy that would set an example that some people in Russia might notice and say, why there, not here?

Well, increasingly this is not a war fought between two militaries. It’s a war that the Russians are targeting Ukraine’s urban and civilian population. And seems to me their goals are to break the spirit of Ukraine and probably even more…

This is not foreign policy. These are acts of aggression against individuals.
