Pete V. Domenici is a former United States Senator from New Mexico, serving from 1973 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he was known for his work on budgetary issues and energy policy. During his tenure, he played a significant role in shaping legislation related to nuclear energy and national defense. Domenici was also involved in various bipartisan efforts, particularly in the areas of health care and education reform. He was a prominent advocate for fiscal responsibility and was instrumental in the passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.

I have a personal commitment to myself to try to establish a presentable case for the use of the stewardship contracts.
I continue to believe that we should focus on coal at the source in the coal R&D program and in the Clean Coal Power initiative.
I firmly believe that we should capitalize on our two greatest strengths in electricity supply--coal and nuclear.
I believe the Nation needs to create a center to integrate a number of the specialties.
The President has acknowledged that fusion energy, if we can make it practical and affordable, will be one of the ways to get us to that hydrogen future.
But, Doctor, while I appreciate your knowledge on it and the fact that it is very widespread and exciting, on the other hand, the importance of this is to determine at a point in time, sometime, whether or not that formula is the right one…
