It sickened me yesterday to see security personnel, including members of the National Guard forcibly and violently clearing the path through Lafayette Square to accommodate the President's visit outside St. John's Church.

I have to date been reticent to speak out on issues surrounding President Trump's leadership, but we are at an inflection point, and the events of the past weeks have made it impossible to remain silent.

They are not battle spaces to be dominated and must never become so.

Our fellow citizens are not the enemy and must never become so.

This is a moment when more investment in diplomacy and development is needed, not less.

I think actually both sides, going back to the beginning of SALT, do not want to destroy the world and that continues.

I urge you to support and encourage the expansion and deepening of these channels of communication with Russia to enhance the security of the American people and our allies.

These weapons are for war; they are not for sport. Assault weapons are designed to kill as many people as possible in the shortest time possible.
