Last Friday I joined a nationwide effort to build support for the Patients' Bill of Rights. It was a privilege to do this, and to know that I was in concert with our efforts in my district out in the Central Coast of California, where I was in line with and online with those around the country in what we might call an old-fashioned petition drive, democracy in action. I was at one of the excellent institutions of higher learning in my district, and took advantage of state-of-the-art computer facilities and was able to lead an online grass roots petition drive to encourage students to speak out on the importance of managed care reform. We went to Santa Barbara City College, and the school of nursing was our host there, and invited other students to join us.
