Shallow is simply not a synonym for safe.

One of the issues that I do not want to lose sight of in this discussion today is the importance of safety in both deepwater and shallow water drilling.

I also want to acknowledge that this is Earth Day, and that is an annual occurrence on this date every year.

I applaud the efforts that we have made so far but we have a ways to go to make sure that we move chemical regulation forward.

It probably does need to be changed along the way.

I hope you will work with this committee because we intend to, I hope, move forward to ensure the language gives effect to that kind of intent.

So since 2009, there has been widespread agreement that this cost-benefit standard does need to be abandoned.

Under current law, TSCA has used an 'unreasonable risk' standard to evaluate the safety of a chemical.

As I said in my opening remarks, I would not, but as we know, the bill would still pass.

I have long been a supporter of fixing the SGR. It harms providers and consumers alike, the SGR.
