My life’s work from education advocacy to leading the city council has been centered around making sure every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed in a more just city than the one I grew up in.

I never even imagined I would see a black mayor in my lifetime in the city of Boston.

We have a lot of work to do when it comes to combating structural racism in our city.

While I am proud to be Boston`s first women mayor and the first mayor of color I am also very proud to know that I will not be the last.
