The hard work of improving New Yorkers’ lives starts now

The poetry of campaigning may have come to a close last night at 9, but the beautiful prose of governing has only just begun

My friends, tonight we have toppled a political dynasty.

The future is in our hands

California could not stand by and watch Republicans bake in a sizable advantage through redistricting ahead of midterm elections.

We’re sicker and poorer.

This tit-for-tat move was warranted

I look forward to having those conversations and to making clear that if there is ever anything to be spoken about that could benefit the people of the city, I am ready and willing to speak to anyone about it.

I am interested in having a conversation with President Trump on the ways in which we can work together to serve New Yorkers.

There were a few months ago where I told supporters across the city to stop donating, and today I am asking them to start once again.

We will cast a wide net.

I call on other states to follow California’s lead on redistricting before the midterm elections.

We can be free and we can be fair. We can demand what we deserve and together we have built a movement where everyday New Yorkers recognize themselves in our vision of democracy.

For too long, New Yorkers have strained to find a leader who represents us, who puts us first, and we have been betrayed time and again.

I cannot promise that you will always agree with me, but I will never hide from you. If you are hurting, I will try to heal. If you feel misunderstood, I will strive to understand.

I will be the mayor for every New Yorker, whether you voted for me, for Governor Cuomo or felt too disillusioned by a long-broken political system to vote at all.

Tonight, we made history. In the words of Nelson Mandela, 'It always seems impossible until it is done.' My friends, we have done it. I will be your Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York City.
