Understanding the climate is as critical to public protection as understanding the weather.

I want to first ask a New York question.

The importance of weather forecasting and the work of NOAA are so important that we are invoking our Rule XI right to ask for a second day of witnesses.

This event is a painful reminder that we are all vulnerable to unexpected disasters, and it also highlights how critical the work of the National Weather Service is as a public safety tool.

What are some of the lessons the agency has learned during the period of this outbreak?

Isn't that correct?

Could legislation that applies different standards adversely affect the quality of drugs made available to patients?

Hasn't the FDA recently used its manufacturing inspection authority to inspect manufacturers acting under the guise of compounding recently?

I think it is irresponsible for us to stand by and expect FDA to cobble together a piecemeal approach to regulating the practice of compounding pharmacy.

For years through two different administrations, agency leaders have known that there were problems with the underlying law.

If we as Americans do not continue to make things that are tangible, we have a very long road ahead of us.

We certainly see that the enforcement of our trade laws is one of the common challenges that we face from things like transshipment of U.S. goods to Iran, to protection of our pharmaceutical companies' intellectual property, to proper classification of imported goods.

I think there is a grand opportunity. One of the things that we have done well in South Carolina is the notion of synergy of our economic assets.

We are always prepared to work in a bipartisan fashion in reducing the time, at least in questioning Ms. Pritzker.

I am a big free trader. I know there are folks who believe in fair trade.

One of the most important functions that our Federal Government must fulfill, of course, is the care of our veterans.

Like our urban veterans, our rural veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are coping every day with both the visible and the invisible wounds of war.
