For over a year, Mr. Speaker, thousands of hard working steelworkers have faced economic devastation due to illegal steel dumping. Ten thousand have lost their jobs. Weirton Steel, an employee-owned company which fought its way back from bankruptcy, suddenly had 800 workers unemployed. They played by the rules when other nations broke them with their illegal dumping. Mr. Speaker, this is only a loan guarantee program for the steel industry and some in the oil and gas industry to get back on their feet. No handouts here, just loan guarantees with tight controls and costs offset. Mr. Speaker, for the first time in a year, this bill provides the first little bit of hope to the thousands of proud, hard-working families in our area along the Ohio River, for instance in communities named Weirton and Wheeling and Follansbee. Vote for them tonight.
