Last February, when the first case of chronic wasting disease was documented in my district, a quiet panic began to race against south central Wisconsin. People wondered how seriously this disease would affect the health of the deer population, as well as the health of their own families. On behalf of my constituents, I would like to thank the chairman, the gentleman from New Mexico (Mr. Skeen), the ranking member, the gentleman from Washington (Mr. Dicks), and the dean of our delegation, the gentleman from Wisconsin (Mr. Obey), for understanding the importance of this needed funding. This funding will be vital in slowing the spread of the disease, as well as learning a lot more about it.
