“I voted in favor of the McConnell amendment today, because I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments in its resolve clauses expressing the Senate's tremendous admiration and appreciation for our men and women in uniform who have served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their contributions and their service deserve our unified and enduring support. However, the findings contained in the amendment seem to link Saddam Hussein's regime to the terrorist attacks on the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001. No evidence supports such a link, and those who continue to confuse these issues do the American people a great disservice, as they encourage an unfocused and unwise approach to our first national security priority, the fight against terrorism.”
