“I am very proud today to be a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development of the Committee on Public Works and Transportation because I think we have a very meaningful initiative and a very important bill that we bring before the Congress today. In my judgment this is an important initiative because it helps our economic development efforts in very important ways to help to create jobs, to upgrade smaller communities economically and to provide opportunities for workers. The Economic Development Administration has had its share of administrative problems in the past, and hopefully some of the provisions in this bill will help to correct that, and they should be aware that we will hold them accountable and that we will have very high expectations for their work.
