I think we all want to execute a plan with as much urgency and alacrity as humanly possible.

If you have these trucks sort of off the rural winding roads where there are a lot more pedestrians, perhaps they would avoid that unfortunate encounter that you referenced.

In 2016, nearly 6,000 pedestrians died in collisions with highway vehicles in the U.S. That is an average of 16 per day.

My district in northeast Wisconsin has a lot of rural roads.

In your opening statement, you noted that pedestrian deaths on our roadways have been increasing since 2010.

I know you and many others on this subcommittee have been tireless advocates for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

These lakes, however, provide for more than just our economy. They provide for a way of life.

Anyone who has visited the Great Lakes knows they are a national treasure.

We have to move out aggressively as we go forward.

How did the Department of Defense get into the business of funding a physical wall for what you all consider is a nonmilitary emergency?

Diverting MILCON funding hampers the Department's and Congress' ability to sustain what you all have been stressing is readiness.

I appreciate the emphasis on time and I appreciate your comments in your opening testimony about the need for a more productive relationship between industry--industry beyond sort of the traditional defense companies and the Pentagon.

If our infrastructure is crumbling right now, which we all seem to agree upon, and the Highway Trust Fund is insolvent, what can we do to get this balance right?

I think there is a shared sense on the committee that we need to do more to invest in our infrastructure.

I would agree with what the chairman said earlier that any cost plus 50 demand on our allies would be--I forget the adjective he used, monstrously stupid, something to that effect, stupendously ill-advised, extravagantly dumb.

Eliminating or reducing funding for GLRI would undo years of this program's achievements.

We do not take threats to our ecosystem lightly.

Should we consider designating a group like Ansar Allah as a foreign terrorist organization?

I would submit that the organization's formal slogan--death to America, death to Israel, curse upon the Jews, victory to Islam--gives us a sense of the general direction.
