I sincerely hope that our colleagues and our colleagues' parents all across America will look to our parents and thank them for their contribution as Medicare has been restored. I thought, continuing this theme of dedicating a portion of this to my father, in honor of his birthday, I thought we would also talk about the Social Security System, because I know how important that is to my parents in their lives and what it means to them to receive a Social Security check, and what that means to other senior citizens all across America. Today, Washington, the government, is collecting dollars out of the paychecks of people, working families, so that they have money in here in this fund called the Social Security fund so they can give Social Security checks back out to our senior citizens. Today they collect more money than what they pay back out to our senior citizens in benefits. Now, with that extra money, it is supposed to be set aside in a savings account. And the savings account is supposed to grow and grow and grow, to protect our seniors, to protect the Social Security System as we know it today. Well, it should come as no great surprise to anyone out here that before we got here in 1995, since about 1983 that extra money that has been coming in has been spent on other government programs instead of being set aside to preserve and protect Social Security. So we have introduced legislation out of our office called the Social Security Preservation Act.…
