“I am proud to again be an original cosponsor of The Public Education Reinvestment, Reinvention, and Responsibility Act of 2000--better known as ``Three R's.'' I have been pleased to work with the education community in Wisconsin, as well as Senators Lieberman, Bayh, and our other cosponsors, on this important piece of legislation. Perhaps this year, the three ``R's'' should stand for: ``right, right, and right.'' It is the right time to keep promises we all made during the election to make bipartisan education reform our first order of business. It is the right policy to give schools more flexibility but ask for more accountability. And it is the right thing to do to make our students a number one federal priority. We have come a long way since we started this effort more than a year ago. Unfortunately, in the 106th Congress, we were unable to rise above the usual partisan sniping and have a serious education debate. But last year's fighting has given way to this year's opportunity to do what's right by our children. If we learned anything from the last election, it is that the American people want real education reform-- and they want to see results.”
