Yes, it was. But while addressing those concerns, we certainly do not wish the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] to reinvent the wheel. The IRS has issued several private letter rulings and technical advice memoranda (including Technical Advice Memorandum 8502002) over the past years regarding the circumstances when adult fitness can be a charitable activity. It is my understanding that these rulings have stated that adult fitness is a charitable activity as long as the program serves a broad section of the community.
