Today we will consider several bills that focus on increasing confidence in our elections.

This is what we all want to consider as a supposed commonsense measure to protect access to the franchise.

I appreciate the work not only of you, Mr. Morelle, but his minority staff engaging with our staff to get this legislative text correct.

The bill ensures that congressional observers have full access to congressional election administration processes, including polling places, and election tabulation facilities.

I will be brief. I just want to say thanks to you and Ranking Member Kilmer for taking the lead on the Modernization Subcommittee.

I am committed to ensuring the U.S. Capitol Police has the tools, resources, and leadership it needs to keep our community safe.

My priority as Chairman of the Committee on House Administration is to de-politicize Capitol Police.

Most importantly, we have listened to the American people, Republicans and Democrats, to address the concerns about faith in our elections.

I do not think we need a Federal mandate as suggested in that amendment. I will be voting no.

The empirical data here is showing that the ACE Act is needed.

We should be celebrating that and looking for ways to build upon that success, but doing so at the State level, not looking for a Federal takeover of elections.

This is a common-sense amendment, and I ask my colleagues to support it.

Statehood is not the right way to do it. Retrocession is the right way to do it.

I would hope that everybody would vote no.
